Border crossing from Kigali to Bwindi forest in Uganda

What you need to know about a Border crossing from Kigali Rwanda to Bwindi forest in Uganda

It is nowadays easy to cross the border from Kigali Rwanda to Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park for gorilla trekking safari, you can cross from Kigali Rwanda into Uganda via the Katuna border or via Cyanika border. From Kigali international airport to Katuna/Gatuna border on the Uganda side is about 2 hours drive while Cyanika takes about 3 hours drive and from either border to Bwindi forest or Mgahinga national park takes one hour drive.

The Cyanika and Katuna border on Uganda and Rwanda play a very big important role for Uganda gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest via Kigali for tourists arriving and departing via Kigali international airport in Rwanda, below are some of our popular Uganda gorilla trekking and other wildlife safaris which can start or end in Kigali Rwanda

Mountain gorilla trekking is the most popular tourism activity in Africa to most tourists traveling to East Africa most epically for those going to Uganda and Rwanda. Mountain gorilla trekking is a very enthralling African adventure where a traveler treks through the African tropical rain forests to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitats in either Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, or Mgahinga gorilla national park both parks are located in southwestern Uganda near the Rwanda and DR-Congo border, Volcanoes national park in Rwanda is another place where you can see gorillas and in Virunga national park of DR-Congo. This means that mountain gorilla trekking can only be done in three African countries in the whole world which are Uganda, Rwanda, and DR-Congo. The good relationship between Uganda and Rwanda makes it easy for tourists to cross from either country without any difficulties.

Many tourists find it easier and cheaper to fly to Kigali and cross to Uganda for gorilla trekking in the Bwindi forest, this is because the Uganda gorilla trekking permit is more affordable costing only $700 per person compared to the Rwanda gorilla permit which costs $1500 per person which means if you trek gorillas in Uganda instead of Rwanda you will be saving $800 on each permit that why Kisoro tours Uganda is putting together all information you need know about a Border crossing from Kigali to Bwindi forest in Uganda in this article.

Is it easy to get a visa at the Cyanika or Katuna border?

Yes, it is easy you can get a visa at the border entry when crossing to Uganda from Rwanda, Uganda visa costs $50 but I would recommend that one use East African tourist vias which allows you multiple entries to Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Burundi and it costs only $100 valid for 3 months (90 days). Tourists and other visitors can make payments on arrival at the border point or apply online and pay prior to arrival. All the mentioned methods are easily accepted at the border entry point.

Border crossing from Kigali to Bwindi forest in Uganda is the shortest and easiest way to trek the mountain gorillas in Uganda because of the distance between Kigali international airport to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park or Mgahinga gorilla national park is very short, it is only about 3 hours’ drive. As I had motioned above Uganda is a cheap safari destination in East Africa, the price of a gorilla trekking in Rwanda is too expensive at $1500 and in Uganda, it is $700 which is more affordable for especially budget tourists so border crossing from Kigali to Bwindi forest in Uganda is cheaper than gorilla trekking within Rwanda.

Is Border crossing from Kigali to Bwindi forest in Uganda safe?

Yes, it is safe crossing the border either way between Uganda and Rwanda for tourists and locals people, security on the border of Uganda and Rwanda is very, and even when there is a trade dispute on the border, tourists are not affected? Currently, Uganda and Rwanda are one of the safest countries in East Africa, and in the world, both countries have had stability for some good years, and also tourism is a top forex earner in both countries so they always make sure that the tourist is safe and enjoy their safari.
