For those visiting Uganda for tourism or business, food specialities in Uganda originate from a mixture of flavours from different parts of the country, most of Uganda’s dishes originate from Arabic, Asian and British dishes and cultures. The famous Uganda Rolex: Rolex is the top most popular street food in Uganda consisting of chapati (flatbread) rolled with a fried egg (omelette), you can ass well add different vegetables, and other people can even add meat.
Famous Uganda Matoke
Matoke is the most famous traditional local dish to eat in Uganda and it can be found in all corners of the country. Matoke can be cooked with chicken stew and green bananas with other local spices, bananas mixed with the chicken and different local vegetables. Other organic spices to use when cooking matoke include tomatoes, green pepper, onions, garlic, and ginger. These local spices will make your local dish so delicious and flavoured.
The famous Luwombo
This is another traditional Uganda dish most common in central Uganda, traditionally Oluwombo was prepared for royalty and other traditional functions, however now today it is part of Uganda’s traditional dishes. Usually, most Luwombo is Chicken, goat meat, and beef meat are the most used when preparing Oluwombo. On how Luwombo is cooked, it is slowly cooked in banana leaves over low heat which enhances the flavors of the type of meat you have chosen to cook for this delicious luwombo dish.
Ugali
This is one of Uganda’s traditional foods but also across all East African countries, it is one most affordable or call it the most basic traditional dishes that can be afforded by most Africans, Ugali is made from maize flour and it is made into a kind of paste or ball which is used as accompaniment to different dishes. Ugali can be eaten hot or cold
Famous Uganda Nsenene
Nsenene is one of the most recent Ugandan dishes that is unusual, Nsenene is fried grasshopper, and salt and onions are added to flavor it. Nsenene is not sold in Lodges hotels or restaurants, it is normally sold as a snack on streets in towns as one of Uganda’s local street foods. Nsenene has become very popular in Uganda. If you want to prepare them yourself remember to remove the wings, legs, antennae and tail.
The Uganda Roasted peanuts
Peanuts are usually eaten as a snack between meals, it’s common for Ugandans to eat roasted peanuts, peanuts are very healthy and delicious. Peanuts are sold in different shops in all parts of the Country.
