Gorilla tracking in Bwindi from Kigali
Kisoro Tours Uganda, we organize Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safaris from Kigali Rwanda mainly to cut off $800 on gorilla permits and to cut off the long distance between Entebbe airport and Bwindi Forest.
Suppose you start your Uganda safari via Kigali Rwanda. In that case, it is only about 4 hour drive from Kigali airport to Bwindi forest. In contrast, if you start in Entebbe, it is about an 8 to 9 hours drive from Entebbe airport to Bwindi Forest which means booking your Uganda gorilla safari through Kigali save you $800 on a gorilla permit and about 5 hours of driving.
Currently, the Rwanda gorilla permit costs $1500 per person while the Uganda gorilla permit costs $700 per person, now this means tracking mountain gorillas in Uganda instead of Rwanda you will save $800 per person to extend your safari to other national parks. It is now a new trend where tourists fly to Kigali and cross to Uganda by road to the Bwindi impenetrable forest for affordable gorilla trekking.
Tourists and other visitors who wish to take this advantage of Uganda’s more affordable gorilla permits you can still fly in and out of Kigali by crossing to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience and after crossing back to Kigali Rwanda for your flight. Below is how the itinerary of 3 days of Uganda gorilla trekking from Kigali would be perfect for those with limited time.
Upon your arrival at Kigali international airport, you’ll be met by our company representative (guide/driver) and begin the 4-hour drive southern or Northern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the drive to Bwindi take you through different villages, mountain, valleys and well organized terraced local farms along the way before crossing the border via Katuna in Kabale or Cyaniika in Kisoro depending on which sector of Bwindi where you will be tracking in.
After an early breakfast, your driver/guide will drive to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park’s headquarters for briefing, after briefing you’ll embark on the once-in-a-lifetime experience of mountain tracking in the impenetrable rain tropical forest of Africa.
Mountain gorilla tracking has no guarantee how long or difficult the tracking experience will be because it depends on the movement of the gorilla family you will be tracking that day, normally gorilla tracking can take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours of trekking through the rain forest and at relatively high altitudes so we recommend to those who wish to take part in this activity to have good level of fitness.
Once you find them, you’ll be allowed to spend one full hour of close contact with them, spend time observing their family dynamics and getting to learn a bit about each gorilla’s distinct personality as your photos and videos for memories. After gorilla tracking is complete, your diver/guide will drive you back to Kigali Rwanda for dinner and overnight.
You’ll finish your gorilla safari in Uganda from Kigali Rwanda with a complimentary Kigali city tour that will include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and a visit to the local craft markets.
Flying into Kigali, for the beginning of your gorilla Safari in Uganda, brings both Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park closer without an endless 9 to 10 hours drive from Entebbe airport.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has four gorilla trekking sectors which include; the Rushaga sector, the Nkuringo sector, the Buhoma sector, and Ruhija Sector. Therefore those who are tracking gorillas in Uganda from Kigali, we trek in either Rushaga and Nkuringo or in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park since they there the nearest to Rwanda border, it is approximately about 4 to 5 drive from Kigali to Rushaga and Ruhija or Mgahinga instead of the 8-9 hours drive from Entebbe or Kampala.
