The Kalangala Ssese Islands are made up of 84 islands that are in the middle of Lake Victoria, the second-largest freshwater lake in the world. Kalangala is the headquarters of the district which is located 51 kilometers across Lake Victoria, southwest of Entebbe.
The Kalangala Ssese islands lie in two main groups, one in the southwest is known as the Bugala Group and the second one in the northeastern group is known as the Koome Group. The two groups of the Ssese islands are separated by the Koome Channel, among other islands in the Kalangala Ssese Islands includes Bubeke, Bufumira, Bugaba, Bukasa, Buyova, Funye and Serinya, Damba, Koome, and Luwaji.
The Ssese Island is the biggest island of Bugala boast of the Lutoboka Central Forest Reserve gazette in 1948 consisting of 378 hectares which accommodates different animals including different monkeys and over 310 bird species and different types of tree species,
