Most of the crops produced in the remote mountainous region of Kisoro are costly to transport out of the area and therefore a product winch is not too bulky but of high quality and can fetch a high return for money invested, needed to be identified so to be cost-effective. Honey seemed to fit this criterion. My father and many friends and associates in Kisoro keep bees but they receive only a small monetary return through some bartering exchange for their Honey produced in a traditional hive with no purifying equipment.
This proposal is aimed at promoting Bee Farming and supporting farmers in Kisoro, especially the peasants. It has been approved by the Kisoro Honey Producers-an organization that has been established for the following, principal, and aims.
Kisoro Honey Producers, therefore, seek collaboration with relevant government and NGO agencies, Local, National or International and it is in the light of this, that our board approved this project for immediate consideration. The steering committee shall be composed of representative board members, field workers, community representatives of Kisoro Honey Producers, and various opinion leaders, for proper monitoring and evaluation.
