Rwanda Gorilla Filming Volcanoes-Uganda Bwindi Forest, Volcanoes National Park is home to the mountain gorillas located in the Northwest of Rwanda, two hour’s drive from Kigali Airport, Volcanoes National Park is one of large Africa’s rain forests mixed with bamboo forests, this makes it easy for film crews when filming mountain gorillas, you can as well fly to Kigali Rwanda and go filming gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable Forests National Park in Uganda because it’s only 3 and half hour drive from Kigali to Bwindi Forest so it is quick and easy to fly to Kigali than Entebbe which is 9-hour drive to Bwindi.
Rwanda’s Volcanoes is a home to over 440 mountain and over 880 mountain gorillas live in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Rwanda has 10 gorilla habituated gorilla families/groups and Uganda has 15 habituated gorilla families/groups all available for trekking and filming, all gorilla trekking and filming permits are issued by Rwanda Development Board and Uganda Wildlife Authority. Those are the main government bodies in charge of the national parks in Uganda and Rwanda
The cost of filming gorilla permit in Rwanda is at $5000 and $2000 for security but you will get a $2000 refund at the end of the trip if you give copies of the film to the Rwanda Development Board and in Uganda filming permit cost $4200 which includes the cost of application fees for filming permits, but you will need additional fee for clearing filming equipment, transportation, and accommodation which is near the park where you will be filming from
Film crew’s individuals, TV production and other companies filming in Rwanda and Uganda have to book their filming permits at list 6 months in advance to avoid disappointments, also please keep in mind you have to get local clearing agent to clear your filming equipment in Uganda at Entebbe International Airport and in Rwanda at Kigali International Airport customs.
