Mount Sabyinyo volcano: is 3669 meters above the sea level which makes it the second-highest mountain in Mgahinga Gorilla national park, the word Sabyinyo means in local language “old man; teeth” just because of its shape, Kisoro tours Uganda recommend hiking Mt Sabyinyo it is clanging hike but worth it.
Mt Sabyinyo volcano has got 3 peaks, when you hike to the third peak which is shared by 3 countries namely Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo which means you will stand in three countries with one visa, Mt Sabyinyo hike to the summit (third peak) will take you about 7 to 8 hours depending on how physically fit you are. Hiking Mt Sabyinyo can only be done via the Uganda side.
Mount Gahinga volcano: is 3474 meters above the seas level, it is also the easiest to hike to the summit. Mount Gahinga in local language means “a pile of rocks/stones”, the stones can be seen everywhere in the Kisoro area where Mgahinga is located. Climbing up to the summit of Mount Gahinga takes 5 to 6-7 hiking through the bamboo forest with other vegetation up to the summit of Mount Gahinga volcano with a crater lake at the top
.Mount Muhabura volcano: is 4127 meters above the sea level making it the tallest among the three volcanoes in Mgahinga, Muhabura in local language means “the guide” simply because it is very tall and it can be seen from a distance within the Kisoro area and outside Kisoro so it worked as a guide earl days for people the people in the area
Hiking-climbing to the summit of mount Muhabura takes 9 hours but this will depend on your speed because if you are slow it can take longer, hiking Muhabura on a clear day gives a good view of Rwanda, DR-Congo, and some parts of the Rwenzori mountains.
