The Mountain gorilla habituation process gives travelers more time with gorillas in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, with gorilla habituation you are allowed to spend up to 4 hours interacting with them, getting to know more about man’s closest wild relatives. Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is home to more than half of the total number of world mountain gorilla’s population.
Uganda introduced this new activity of mountain gorilla habituation experience in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi forest, it involves following a gorilla family that is under training it to get to human presence in their natural environment before it is open
The gorilla habituation process involves daily visit gorilla family by well-experienced researchers, park rangers and now Uganda wildlife authority has given the opportunity to few tourists to join the team of researchers and park rangers as they observe and monitor a particular gorilla family that is under habituation process until the time gorillas get to learn to tolerate the presence of humans in their natural habitat, this habituation process takes up to 2 years when the professional researchers and park rangers are visiting that practical gorilla family before it is officially open tourists to trek.
Travelers joining researchers and park rangers going for mountain gorilla habituation experience have to report to Rushaga sector-Bwindi forest national park at 7:00 am for a briefing about the whole gorilla habituation process, because when gorillas are under habituation it means that they are still wild so you will also be briefed safety procedures while you are following wild gorillas in Bwindi impenetrable forest to ensure that tourists get the best experience of the mountain gorilla habituation process in Uganda.
The briefing is all about how you will be moving in the forest as you follow the mountain gorilla family that is undergoing the habituation process. Here tourists have a chance to spend four hours with the mountain gorillas and take note that the time you spend to hike up before reaching the gorillas is not counted which makes the habituation experience a very memorable activity more than the normal gorilla tracking which allows tourists only one hour with the habituated gorilla family.
Gorilla habituation permit in Uganda costs $1500 per person and it can be booked through a local tour operator like us or directly from the Uganda wildlife authority head offices in Kampala. Gorilla habituation permits must be booked in advance because there are only 8 habituation permits available per day for tourists yet gorilla habituation experience is on high demand.
