Uganda Vs Rwanda Comparing 2021/2022 gorilla safaris experiences in Uganda and Rwanda, when comparing the two countries we first look at the prices and costs involved.
As we have seen above the main price differences is on the gorilla tracking permit price whereby Rwanda permit cast $1500 person and Uganda permit going for only $700 a person with a discount during this promotional season which started from 1st December 2020 to March 31, 2021, Uganda gorilla permit cost $400 per person, this is a very big difference in prices if compared with Rwanda where permit costs $1500 and there is no discount.
Take not that mountain gorilla tracking experience in both countries is the same; the national parks where gorillas live in both countries are only separated by international boundaries.
The advantage of tracking gorillas in Rwanda is that Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is only located 125kms which two hours’ drive from Kigali international airport which makes Rwanda gorillas much easier to access them which means that one can even spend a night in Kigali and track gorillas in Volcanoes national park while in Uganda it takes you 8 to 9 hours drive from Entebbe International Airport to get to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park or to Mgahinga gorilla national park but if you don’t want to spend 8 hours on the road, there are daily domestic flights from Entebbe airport to Bwindi forest and to other national parks in Uganda and it takes only about 45 50 minutes from Entebbe to Bwindi forest by flight.
Basically, the major challenge with tracking gorillas in Rwanda is certainly the price of the gorilla tracking permit at $1500 compared to Uganda’s gorilla permit at $700 now with a discount at $400 starting from1st December 2020 to 31st March 2021. But Rwanda has its pride in the ability for one to do the gorilla tracking even in one day and fly back home because of the short distance from the airport which is not possible for Uganda gorilla tracking.
However I must say that the long drive from Entebbe airport to Bwindi forest or to Mgahinga is worth it with enchanting amazing sceneries all the way, you will have your first stopover at the Uganda Equator, drive through Lake Mburo National Park with abundant wildlife, drive through different villages and towns before reaching well-terraced mountains with flowing rivers which gives a real feel of Africa which is not the case for the drive from Kigali airport to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
